Sport Participation - Mental Health Support
About Us
We are a multidisciplinary team of experienced Mental Health Professionals, Trainee Sport Psychologists and current/former professional athletes and coaches with a passion and interest in mental health.
Through fundraising we are providing mental health sport sessions within a non-competitive, encouraging and supportive environment to support people in their recovery.
Our participants range from people with severe and enduring mental illness and under NHS Mental Health Services to those who may feel like they are experiencing some early warning signs of mental illness and want to find ways to manage their difficulties by engaging in activity alongside others who may be struggling.
See the Recovery Through Sport Section for an example of the type of sport sessions we are currently providing. We would like support to build more of these sessions around the UK.
We provide support to The Robins Talk Mental Health Football Session every Wednesday from 6 – 7 pm at the Imperial sports ground, Bedminster, Bristol, BS14 9EA. This group is run by the Bristol City FC Robins Foundation and mental health support and workshops are provided by Go Again Charity.
We re passionate about supporting the mental health of people at all levels of sport and people who have been released by clubs and academies.
Whilst working in NHS Mental Health Services over the last 17 years our team have supported many people who have struggled with their mental health both during and after they have left the sport industry.
We have observed that people within sport don’t appear to have equal access to professional mental health support, especially children and players at grassroots, non-league and academy level.
We wanted to change this so we created a charity that is run by Mental Health Professionals alongside Trainee Sport Psychologists, current and former players and Coaches.
We aim to offer confidential and fast response support by providing an on call service if any players or staff have concerns about themselves or someone else within their club they can give us a shout. We aim to communicate in a way that is comfortable from face to face to offering advice via text or email.
We provide written resources, we have produced easy read, sport related mental health tools and resource packs that we can work through.
We provide 1:1 support and workshops for players, staff and parents of people from all levels of sport.
Our service is funded by donations and grants and appreciate any support to keep us running. We will be organising more fundraising events which we will promote on our social media channels.
